What is a signaling link ?
SS7 messages are exchanged between two network nodes via signaling links, one channel or slot from an E1 or PCM between two nodes is used for creating a 64kbps signaling link.
SS7 Signaling links are bidirectional and usually more than one signaling link is created between two network nodes for redundancy, more links are added keeping in mind the congestion on the links and traffic requirements.
If all the signaling links between two nodes get out of service than entire connectivity between the nodes is lost and no communication is possible.
