The Mobile Switching center (MSC) performs the actual switching functions for the network i.e. connects one phone line to the other to establish a call.
It controls calls to and from other telephone and data communication systems such as PSTN, ISDN, PLMN( Public Land Mobile Network) and public data networks and various private networks as well. Media circuits in terms of E1s, STM etc terminate at the MSC
