1800 is the new mobile from Nokia in its line of simple and to the point handsets targeted towards individuals who are not interested in fancy features and just need the basic calling and text messaging capabilities.

Nokia 1800 lives up to expectations and Nokia Standards as far as voice quality, reliability and durability of the phone is concerned. The phone body and finishing looks sleek in black color. It is simple and easy to use handset and recommended for those who are not tech savvy and find themselves bogged down by the Plethora of Options that any new mobile carriers these days

Apart from basic capabilities it also offers a flash light, FM radio and a calendar. However there is no facility to save/play music files (MP3 etc) or a camera, the connectivity options are also non existent (there is no bluetooth, web browser or computer connection option) which is understandable given the cheap price tag.
Memory is also limited to 250 messages

The speaking alarm clock is something interesting, the TFT screen at 65K colors is also pretty good

The cost is around $35 and Nokia 1800 has received good reviews and feedback from countries like India and Pakistan where it is selling for as low as 2500 Rs/ which is just right for the features and capabilities being offered by the phone

IMEI is the unique hardware number of the mobile phone, you can think of it as the MAC address of the telephone

procedure of knowing the IMEI of your mobile phone is standardized across all models and vendors

you just need to type *#06# on the the mobile and the IMEI will pop-up on the screen, this code *#06# works for all cell phone vendors so you can use it to find the IMEI of your samsung or LG or Motorola Mobile Phone

If by-chance you don’t have access to the cellphone than you can also note the IMEI number from box in which the phone came.

The IMEI number is also present at the inside of the phone under the battery , so if your phone is dead than you can get the IMEI from the back side

If all else fails than your last resort will your network operator, the network operators also have the record of the IMEIs being used in their network e.g. if your iPhone was stolen and you don’t have its IMEI than AT&T can give you the IMEI from their database

I was using the EDGE data connection from my provider When I had initially configured my E-72 with the Nokia Ovi mail service
since, I had a unlimited data plan so I never bothered or worried that what access point is being used by E72 for checking and syncing emails.

However, last week I discontinued my unlimited data plan and since now checking emails cost me money so I wanted to set it to use wifi

Here is how you can change the access point which E72 uses for checking for your email
Go to
Messaging > Options > Settings > Email > [Your mailbox name] > Account Settings > Account Information > Access Point

If you have more than one mail box configured than you will need to do the same for others

At this point you will be able to set your default access point, unfortunately I don’t see any option of setting a fall back access point or access point at 2nd priority, this means that when you will be out of the selected Wifi coverage area than your email will stop syncing

so if you are are at home than you will have to manually select your home wifi network and at office again manually set the access point to office wifi. E-72 won’t prompt or ask you to change the access point, it will just disconnect from the Nokia server and will stop syncing mails

So just the other day I installed Fring on my Nokia E-72 and it worked like a charm
than I wanted to have a go with Skype and installed the newly released Skype for Symbian 1.0, Sykpe also worked out of the box
but guess what, after installing Skype Fring stopped working, it was working for chat etc and application was running allowing me log in but there was no audio when I made calls

I removed and reinstalled Fring and again Fring Started working, but now Skype got corrupt and reached same situation as was Fring, Skype was connecting to the Skype network but was unable to make calls and there was no voice.

So it turned out that there is a component VoIPSrv which both Skype and Fring Use and it is also installed at the time of installation of Skype or Fring
Skype uses the older version of component i.e. VoIPsrv 1.0 while Fring Uses the new VoIPSrv 2.0, now only one version of this component can be installed on the phone at one time as both Fring and Skype require different versions so one of them won’t work
either you can have Skype or Fring.
I decided to stick with Fring as it does allow you to have the Skpye conversations so there is no special need of having a dedicated Skype Client Software on Nokia Sybmian Phones

Profile currently in use” and there was no option of disconnecting over all the VoIP and SIP setting Menus

Anyhow actually the disconnect button was hidden in the Contact Book
When you open the Contact or Phone Book than at the Top right there is a drop down menu stating “Phone” as 1st item and the 2nd Item will be your VoIP Profile Name

You need to select the VoIP profile from there, now click center key and it would give you the option to disconnect from the VoIP service. Disconnect and after that you will be able to mess/play/edit the VoIP settings.

WARNING
If you just purchased your Nokia E-72 and are trying to use its in built VoIP application and from Control Panel > Settings > Connections > SIP settings
Than rest assured that it won’t Work

To get VoIP working You need to download and install SIP VoIP Settings Application from Nokia Website .
This application can be downloaded from http://www.forum.nokia.com/Tools_Docs_and_Code/Tools/Plug-ins/Enablers/SIP_VoIP_Settings_application.xhtml And you will have to register prior to downloading, to save you from this trouble I have also attached a copy of this application at the end of this post

I was really amazed, shocked and angry when I found out that E-72 does not come with an out of the box VoIP client, after all E-72 is the Nokia’s Flag ship mobile for Business Customers and VoIP is a very basic requirement of such phones.

Nokia really made it really confusing, if the built-in SIP Profile application does not work than why did they include it in Phone, so that everyone’s wastes an hours trying to get their VoIP Numbers registered ?

Please note the 3.1 version is for Symbian devices (S60 5.x) touch screen mobiles and does not work with E-72, I have tested version 3.x which is for S60 3rd edition phones and it is working fine as E-72 which is also carries the Symbian 3rd Edition OS.

After installation you will need to go to Control Panel > Net Settings > Advanced VOIP Settings to configure the VoIP (Note these setting will only appear AFTER you install the VoIP Settings Application 3.x)

Following is the link to directly download SIP VoIP settings App
Also is it same for the latest mobiles being offered by Nokia e.g. E72 i.e. still no option to copy text ?

Nokia Phones are great but lacking a basic feature like copy from borwser is a big turn-off for many users. Most of the mobiles do allow users to copy and paste text in editable text boxes, why they don’t allow users to copy/paste specific text from mobile browsers is beyond reason and understanding, I think even Opera lacks this text copy feature
