Home Location Register (HLR)

The home location Register (HLR)
is a database that stores and manages subscriptions of GSM subscribers. It contains all permanent subscriber information which includes subscribers profile and activity status
The HLR is an integral component of CDMA (code division multiple access), TDMA (time division multiple access), and GSM (Global System for Mobile communications) networks. Each subscriber is assigned to one specific HLR, which acts as a fixed reference point and where information on the current location of the user is stored. The capacity of the HLR is Vendor and type specific and each HLR can store hundreds and thousand of Subscribers

There can be one or more than one HLR in a Network depending on the network size and its planning, HLR are also sometimes integrated into MSC ( Mobile Switching Centre) by some vendors
