Bluetooth Wireless Technology is a global computing and telecommunication industry specification for wireless short-range connectivity for mobile phones computers hand held computing devices PDA's, handsets other wearable devices, computers peripherals including printers and human interface devices.

Using this technology, users of cellular phones. pagers and PDA's will be able to buy a three in one phone that can double as a portable phone at home or in office , quickly get synchronized with information in a desktop or laptop computer Initiate the sending or receiving off a fax , initiate a print out and in general have all mobile and fixed computer devices be coordinating.

Bluetooth Wireless Technology the technology requires that a low cost transceiver be included in each device


Thirteen profiles currently exist for Bluetooth Wireless Technology application and an additional 12 are under discussion

The Generic Access Profile (GAP)
Service Discovery Profile
Intercom
Cordless
Telephony
Serial port
Headset
Dial-up networking
Fax
LAN Access
Generic Object Exchange
Object Push
File Transfer

Each device is equipped with a microchip transceiver that transmits and receives data in the ISM Frequency band of 2.4 to 2.4835GHz that is available globally
In addition to data, up to three voice channels are available; each device will have a unique 48bit address from the IEEE 802 standard

The maximum range is 10m
The aggregate bit rate is 1Mbps (later up to 2Mbps)
The net bit rates depend on traffic characteristics
